Triad of Trouble

A letter written by the only daughter
of my friend was read on
Tuesday evening at the
Memorial Service of her mother.

And I walked into a dark place
deep within:
Would my daughter
even bother to write a letter
much less attend my
memorial service?

The following Wednesday morning, my ENT gave me a thorough examination, looking for fluid in the eustachian tube or infection in the sinus cavity. During the sinus endoscopy, he ‘hit’ my spot deep in the palate, sending me through the ceiling. He could  also see the ‘red spot’ in the throat, previously confirmed by both osteopaths as well as palpate in the throat upsetting the ‘spot’  in the process.

His gentle demeanor and willingness to help are most appreciated.  However, the words out of his mouth sent me to another dark place:  “Maybe you’ll just have to live with it.”

He is not interested in the ‘why’ of this phenomenon. The ear and the sinus are clear. The Unknown is not a topic for discussion.

On Thursday morning,
my myofunctional therapist
 reviewed ‘swallowing’.

“functional swallow” with the tongue in the roof of the mouth zeros in on the pain in my left palate
….not to mention the exercises
to strengthen the tongue.

And I started once again with
tongue exercises after being upset by the ENT and his scope!
