400 Microns

Santa Cruz Aftermath of 400 Microns

At my final appointment on Thursday,  Dr Turzo confirmed that my left mandible had repositioned, the temporal bone was in a better pattern and was actually moving and my face was ‘straight’.   Her Dremel went to work again as did her hot laser and her hands.

I relayed the calcification story. Listening intently, she stated that perhaps the calcifications formed around a sliver of bone that had been dislodged with the orthodontic procedure that resulted in the collapse of the left side of my palate. The subsequent discovery of necrotic (dead) bone around the hamular process area in the palate two years later make this a reasonable theory. She recommended  another Exosome infusion to further help the tissue regenerate and soften to assist my body in expelling these substances. A video with commentary was created to update her colleague on her occlusal adjustments and hear her perception of the positive effects of his updated appliance.

I left her office en-route once again to Los Gatos for my third trip to the dentist. The ‘before’ and ‘ after’ appliance adjustment video updated him quickly. After seeing the carbon marks on the appliance in the video, he stated he would like to make one adjustment.  The articulation paper went into my mouth and, as he gazed at the appliance, he said:  “I take that back…. I don’t want to touch this at all.”  And lowering the dental chair to a reclining position, I once again bit and ground around on the articulation paper.  He was shocked.  My bite did not change with repositioning – never before had this happened.  Always there would be multiple adjustments done from sitting to reclining.  This was showing stability in my jaw, teeth and skull base – a welcome change.  I brought out my original appliance and asked him to adjust the occlusion. To his surprise, it was level.

These events were evidence that my body loved 400 Microns of height.  What will happen over the next month with this major shift? Is there more debris? Or has this 29 year old nightmare found closure?  Dare I even entertain this idea?

Phoenix Aftermath  of 400 Microns

Amazing changes evolved during the first ten days  of my arrival home on January 9.

The sharp pain returned  the next day. My Osteopath responded to my text of “Can you see me at the end of your day?” during my last piano lesson. Ambivalent over this recurrence of strong pain with my new appliance, I needed expert confirmation on which one was better for me – the old splint or my new 400 micron device!

Tears were flowing easily as I updated my doctor of the past three days in Santa Cruz.  His statement of “Your vitality has increased” was  most unexpected as I was very upset and crying.  Initially, my range of motion was non-existent with the 400 micron device and the old appliance was much better.  And, then I requested a retest with my mouth open, no teeth touching. Full range of motion surprised us both. I was shocked and even more ambivalent on which appliance to wear. After a few more minutes of talking, a retest of the 400 micron appliance elicited a positive response. He agreed that there should be no treatment…my body was struggling to find balance.

In spite of the pain, this confirmation is what I needed to cope with the changes that were unfolding.  My cold laser, conscious breathing and Jin Shin got me through this difficult adjustment. My scheduled appointment this week saw the release of the scar tissue on my hip graft – as amazing as the release of the scar tissue on my fusion in November had been.

And I wondered what my body would now do with this significant change.  This scar from 1976 had been treated multiple times over the years – acupuncture, percussion hammer, massage, anesthetic injections, and neural therapy did not resolved the sharp pain that could be elicited from when this scar was touched at a certain angle.  And now this had disappeared!

I was unprepared for what happened ten days, (Sunday, January 19) from my last treatment with Dr. Turzo in Santa Cruz on January 9.

Over the years, the ‘tenth day’ has been a ‘testimonial day’ as my body adapted and settled in to significant change after a treatment (like 400 microns on a dental splint that elicited mandibular repositioning, etc).
