WAITING

The last two weeks of June brought significant positive change in my palate
… thanks to my osteopath.
Waiting to see how these changes affect the coming weeks.

Waiting for three months for the laryngologist appointment, my fourth ENT adventure
that failed to confirm anything other than surgery on a glossopharyngeal neuroma
was not an option…he even used the word malpractice.
This doctor was cooperative and interactive
and actually suggested osteopathic care should be continued!

Waiting on the outcome of the ALF evaluation by a San Diego dentist, associate of Dr. Turzo.
Would this light-wire appliance give palatal support to my dropped palate
plus help my tongue stay in the roof of my mouth for additional support?

And would this help the glossopharyngeal neuroma / neuralgia pain and fluid syndrome?

WAITING

? Epiphany ?

Imagining

Insight overwhelmed me as I was walking
out of Sprouts on Sunday, June 28 wondering
why my symptoms had increased with the
positive changes that had unfolded
during the past two weeks in not only my palate
but also with enhanced cranial motion.

And here is my ‘imagining’ –
Jolted back in time and
then swiftly catapulted back to the NOW.

Why did an orthodontic procedure treating
 my temporomandibular joint (1996) provoke
a dropped palate? Two years later, an oral surgeon
during surgery confirmed necrotic bone as well
 as an intubation injury (1972).
It became obvious why the palate dropped :
avascular necrosis/osteonecrosis in the bone
resulted from the intubation injury bruising
which created impaired microcirculation to the bone
due to three hypercoagulation genetics.
He was part of a research team studying
Hypercoagulation and Osteonecrosis of the Jawbone
 with a pathologist and lipidologist.

 June 13 – 15

–  Increased motion in my palate and cranial mechanism…
a most positive and surprising occurrence after the intraoral release of the left palatine bone in the roof of my mouth
on Monday, June 15 by my Phoenix osteopath.

– A timely blessing with an unexpected confirmation
of this enhanced motion by my Santa Cruz osteopath within 24 hours. When she palpated my head, surprise was evident in her voice. Her words ring in my ears:  “Whoa!  Your head has never moved like this before!  Whatever you’re doing, keep doing it!”

Is this increased drainage a stronger response
of my body trying to heal avascular necrosis (AVN) –
necrotic bone – by creating more drainage
as my swallow (palate and tongue) creates more motion
 in the skull base/cranial mechanism?

I can also hear Dr. McMahon’s (oral surgeon)
words echoing in my head from the past:
“Dying bone weeps and seeps into the tissue.”

I have done research on avascular necrosis and osteonecrosis of the jaw.  Links are provided below.

  • Thirty years later, I feel very fortunate to have been in the hands of a researcher in this oral specialty.  He warned
me to NEVER take bisphosphates which I see are a major causation of ONJ.
  • I began working with a hematologist immediately; however,  I never took blood thinners.  Instead I have been taking fibrinolytic supplements to help with microcirculation.  Four months on the blood thinner Lovenox per the oral surgeon and I had a 15% bone loss after menopause.
  • A blood clot in my leg after a traffic accident was not treated with blood thinners; instead, a lysis procedure by my interventional radiologist confirmed that the clot was dissolving fine. No more blood thinners in my life.
  • Several years ago, I purchased an Avacen medical device to assist with microcirculation.
  • I stayed with osteopathic treatment for continual assistance with circulation.
  • At this stage and age, I am seriously thinking of Ozone therapy and hyperbaric oxygen.

I’m most thankful that I will be in Santa Cruz in 10 days and working with my ‘brainstorming’ osteopath.
My local osteopath has brought me through many tough times over the years.  And he’s still down the street.
I also work with my energetic osteopath and biofield breathing.
Our last audio file that we made is a lifesaver. This Path is far removed from pharmaceuticals and/or surgery.

What is the capacity of the body to heal?
I guess we’re going to find out.
My cranial motion has never been this good
nor has my breathing which greatly affects the expansion of the palate.

I’m in the right medical field for recognition that “the body can heal”.
Osteopathic Medicine

Extremes
The Good, The Bad and the Unbelievable

This past week brought the most challenging days with symptoms exacerbated.  Interrupted sleep, fear and panic, mind going in one hundred directions….I think this is called rock bottom.  My students and teaching  are my sanity and my diversion. I am most thankful the rest of my body can function. Diversion is good and children are precious…most of them.

On Monday, July 6  my PCP, an MD acupuncturist of 35 years, suggested homeopathic injections in the fusion and hip graft scar tissue to help combat chronic infection; my fusion greatly affects this area in my throat/jaw and there is an unidentified infection.  Heel remedies of Engerstol, Gripp and Lymphomoso, followed by moxibustion failed to create an effect that I noticed. He had stated many of his patients would notice a change
 within an hour.

Later that morning when I walked into my osteopath’s office after this rough week, he was excited.  He said an idea of what to do with the left trigeminal nerve.  He’s always growing and expanding his palpatory skills. It is the most incredulous experience to ‘feel’ someone lightly touching your face
and sense they are ‘inside’ your head.
And that was precisely what happened. This has nothing
to do with belief – it has to everything to do with sensation.

I could feel a slight pressure increase in the problematic area
of my throat/jaw; and then the pressure would dissolve
and my body would deeply relax until I would become aware
of another pressure buildup with a similar decrease.
When I got off the table and stood up, the pain was not gone.
And I knew without a doubt that he had ‘touched’ the problem.
And, my long-time experience with this kind of treatment
helps me know that this is ok… my body has to deal with this.
 – Give it Time –
With my questioning, he showed me on a skull
where he was focused and discussed what he had done
for the trigeminal nerve that was ‘dry and stuck

And Tuesday morning, rolling over in bed ready to do my ‘biofield breathing’ before getting up, I was acutely aware that my throat was very different – and good.  I didn’t want
to eat breakfast – eating swallowing and chewing
insult the problem area to say the least…but I did eat.
The sharp pain is not gone – but ALL is unlike last week.
I am most encouraged at what has happened..

I joked with him as I briefly saw him between patients
to determine if my dental splint should be in or out of my mouth, saying “I hope  to walk into Turzo’s office in Santa Cruz with the problem gone next Tuesday.” My range of motion without any assistance (LifeWave patch, splint,
homeopathic remedy) was stellar.
Whose body is this – in pain with this kind of motion?!

That I dare go to this place is risky…but I can’t help it.
The change is positive.  My energy level can touch the sky!
Is this the beginning of the end?

And Wednesday informs me that this is definitely not
the beginning of the end. The fluid pressure inside the throat tissue became more extreme than ever as the day progressed.
This pressure from fluid, which the ENTs can neither see nor determine the origin, sends me into a bad place….
I feel like I am slowly drowning.

Music is my lifesaver….a space where I can hear beauty
that gently wraps around me and inside me, delivering
sensation into my body that is most welcome. And I cry.

Walking in Trust

Very dangerous to visit that place of positive change and think it’s over.
Wednesday and Thursday definitely confirmed that!
The overpowering positive thoughts, however, dominate my entire presence when this happens. I have no control.

Thursday brought another appointment. And yet again, amazing interaction and sensation
with this doctor who goes ‘inside’ my head and facilitates motion and thus, change.
This time the cruciate suture, sphenobasilar symphysis and temporal bones were addressed,
instigating symmetrical cranial motion.

And I know this is positive change, enabling my body to generate more healing potential.
I am grateful for my years of ‘experience’ in this form of treatment, which enables me
to continue on this challenging healing path….especially when there is no other path available.

Too much treatment?
Do I take medication to mask the symptom
… or do I enable change?
My body screams to do something…I am unable literally to sit and ‘tolerate’.
Breathing is becoming more powerful as is Jin Shin…both of which I can ‘play’ with.

I equate this with teaching piano:  ten fingers, two eyes and two ears are coordinated.
“Floppy wrists” , finger pads, and many other motor, aural and visual corrections and corrections happen.
A student goes home and does one of three things  1) no practice, 2) incorrect practice, 3) correct follow through.
It’s better to do nothing  than incorrectly!
And it’s better to see the instructor twice a week when struggling with kinesthetic issues with the body.

My body responds to a treatment… and I immediately challenge the treatment by swallowing, breathing and chewing.
I am unable to lie and ‘rest’ to take pressure off the glossopharyngeal nerve. My body is ‘slowly correcting’ as change unfolds.
And it can rebound with increased symptoms – this does not mean backwards or bad…it simply means change.
And then it stops, shuts down and says enough!  And I return for more change.
My overall vitality and energy are at all time high levels as my body is challenged walking along this healing path.

The level of pain and amount of fluid pressure in the throat have pushed me to the edge of sanity during the past three weeks –
since there has been ‘more motion’? Therefore, I continue to enable positive change the only way I know how – cranial treatment –
as I walk through this ‘path of healing’ with my body vigorously responding .

I actually changed the level of pain the other night with one of the Jin Shin postures!
After biofield breathing, lidocaine and cold laser, my pain level had tears rolling down my face in bed at 2:00 am.
Within one minute of my Jin Shin touch in the Main Central Vertical Flow, the pain level decreased and I rolled over and went to sleep.

The big question for me remains:  is this avascular necrosis or ONJ (osteonecrosis of the jawbone)?
Is this necrotic bone weeping along with me as it drains?
This diagnosis came 30 years ago in the office of my oral surgeon, a specialist and researcher in ONJ.
And is the fluid my body’s healing response to drain necrotic bone?

No one can determine where this fluid originates – five ENT”s have not been able to figure this out.
I have an appointment with an oral surgeon in two weeks.
I would give anything to be able to have a conversation with my oral surgeon of 1998 – 2008,
but have been unable to locate him.

I am looking forward to brainstorming in Santa Cruz on Tuesday with my doctor who likes to “brainstorm” with me.
…one of two doctors who is not intimidated by either my questions or my knowledge
….and one who takes time to speculate and investigate.

Out of Pain, Comes Beauty

And where can you discover
 Beauty in Pain?

I find beauty in the hands of those doctors who palpate,
who don’t have to listen…. they feel.
And thus they are given a compassion
 and an understanding that goes
beyond the ordinary.

I find beauty in the hands of those musicians who listen and
possess a sensitivity of touch
 and hearing that goes
beyond the ordinary.

It is in the expression of these
 two varying skills with hands
that I find Beauty
…and am Thankful.

On Sunday, I cancelled my Santa Cruz trip.
I am most hesitant to travel alone with the level of pain  that an assault me out of the blue.

I am hoping to have a Zoom meeting – but that is far removed from her being able to palpate, evaluate and treat.
At least we can brainstorm about my latest information/obsession on Osteonecrosis of the Jaw (ONJ)  and AVN
as well as ear sufflation and ozone. This AVN diagnosis is 30 years old.
Before I emailed her, I asked AI about my case!  And I was surprised how informative this ‘discussion’ was.
  AI Diagnosis

It seems like my Phoenix osteopath could be ‘spot on’ with his trigeminal treatment.
And the glossopharyngeal nerve pops up again.
AI recognized the tubarial salivary gland…unlike the otologist who said it didn’t exist when I mentioned
this newly-discovered salivary gland (2020) in my initial consult.
I had another sudden ‘remembrance’ (epiphany?) of my local dentist claiming
he saw ‘something’ with the eustachian tube on his CBCT scan, which my ENT later denied.
I will revisit information with the oral surgeon in two week  – since this is precisely one area of concern.

The Difficult Patient
This is an accurate description of my case.
And I happy to see that traditional medicine is questioning this:
“We’ve All Had Difficult Patients.  But Do They Really Exist?”
“Instead of labeling them, let’s find out what’s really causing  the problem.”

Music to my ears.
And a big “THANK YOU” to the osteopathic community!
