New Pathways in Life

 The Sonoran Bike Path

 initiates change in January 2026!

An instructor of nine years
 is moving in June 2026.

Hello City of Phoenix?

Health

Doctors are receiving an education
 from my case…

from the potential of EMSculpt
to Cranial Osteopathy and the interconnection of the body

…and now The Otologist.

Unfolding Dynamics

A surprise letter before Thanksgiving later instigates insight into
convergence of Life’s pathways.

The Otologist

The Return of the Dinosaurs

The Otologist examination was NOT with an otoscope – the instrument used to look into the ear. An evaluation with an audiologist revealed significant eustachian tube blockage as well as hearing loss.  I continue to be bewildered over this finding…. but this certainly explains the fluid.

Tensor Veli Palitini is the muscle that opens the eustachian tube. This muscle wraps around the hamular process hook – and this was what was found to be ‘mush’ and resected by the oral surgeon in 1998!  Recently, an oral surgeon commented that this muscle was just ‘flopping around’ in the tissue.

There is 100% probability that there is a dysfunction with Tensor since he lost his hamular hook (anchor) during surgery!  How hard is this to understand?

However, why has no one ever determined this for 25 + years?  And I am on another adventure learning the WHY? that this is only now being confirmed.

I have taken a survey of many of my friends; so far, not one has ever heard of an ‘otologist’. When I was referred to this doctor three months ago, I too was unfamiliar with this  medical word.

This is an otolaryngologist (ENT) who ONLY deals with the ear. I was referred because of the EMSculpt mishap and exaggeration of my pain level.  I had mentioned to my neurologist that listening to music with an earbud in this left ear could help ease the pain some of the time; to me, it was another response to vibration.  Thus, he referred me to the otologist for evaluation of the ‘ossicales’  in my ear’.

I have had my ears examined multiple times over many years. My California osteopath has commented multiple times during the past year that this ‘fluid day response’ had to be an eustachian tube issue.  And nothing was ever seen ….until now!

When I stated that I my middle ear had been viewed multiple times over the years (28) by my ENT, the otologist informed me that he would not be able to evaluate my middle ear with an otoscope?! Thus, he confirmed a blocked Eustachian tube with Tympanometry.

These two ordinary tests are most bewildering since I have been told that  I currently have substantial Eustachian tube blockage!

And, according to this study,  the right ear is more compromised than the left ear.  The left Tensor Veli Palitini muscle definitely has reason to be dysfunctional due to the surgical hamular resection; this muscle has no anchor/ hook to stabilize opening the Eustachian tube.

So why does the Tympanogram show the right side more problematic? I believe this to be only a small part of the problem with the alternating sharp pain in my throat that happens to be located near the end of the Eustachian tube. The ‘fluid’ symptom – the other symptom –  makes Eustachian tube sense.

And I return to a Glossopharyngeal Nerve dysfunction? or an artifact working its way out? I continue to say it feels like there is something embedded in the tissue…after 30 years.

Diagnosis and Determinations ?

Allergy vs. Tensor Veli Palitini
Muscle Dysfunction?

I am totally confused on middle ear examinations with otoscopes,
the instrument used by otolaryngologists (ENT doctors)
to view the middle ear.

My California osteopath and I discovered a functional MRI for determining Eustachian tube blockage.  She wants this study done before I return in January.  Surgical alterations of the tensor veli palitini muscle definitely affect Eustachian tube function.

My otologist states that he will not use this study!

He is treating my issue as an “allergy”. This declaration makes me definitely want a second opinion.

I have been fortunate to have had intervention from my previous otolaryngologist and now have an appointment with his former associate this week on Friday, December 19.  I am very grateful he is helping me even though he has retired from the practice.

I am also pleased that the MR Neurography and MRI results of late September have NOT been finalized by my neurosurgeon/neuroradiologist in Santa Monica. He is very aware of this latest discovery as he reviews my scans. in the upcoming days.

Business Decisions and Determinations

Traffic, Teacher and Technical Turmoil
 2025 goes out with a bang…
When it rains, it pours.

The Hawk Light and
 The Sonoran Bike Path

Little did I know that the appearance of a Hawk Light for pedestrian and bicycle crossing would completely change the way my music school could handle traffic.

My planter in the parking lot was turned into another parking space since parents would not be able to DropOff and PickUp their children. The City of Phoenix turned the DropOff PickUp lane into the main exit from the neighborhood!  The Sonoran Bike Path now dominates the entrance to the neighborhood and destroyed
 our traffic routine.

Three years ago I was hauled into a City Hearing for ‘endangering the lives of children’ – hence our studio parking lot had NO cars parking on site. Parents now have to park on site and walk their children
 to the studio entrance.

I hope I do not meet The City of Phoenix again this year.
Three times in a lifetime is enough.

Teacher

An instructor of nine years got married
and gave notice that she would be moving
 to the southeast in May.
She teaches 55 – 60 students.

This was totally unexpected.

Technical

QuickBooks, IT and equipment …. all three creating large problems as 2025 ends and 2026 begins.

The climax was me blowing a fuse dealing with the surge protection equipment and disabling my business computer. QuickBooks was already causing problems;: admin had been unable to send statements and post charges.
And then there was the IT turmoil that ended
 with my firing someone.
